This year I have made it a goal to use my car less and less. Living in a rural area this is of course often not possible, but I have been disciplined in taking the opportunities that I can to leave my car behind, parked where it should be while I’m moving around town – in front of my house.
I’ve been walking or riding my bike to work just about every day for a year. And it’s been great fun! My nose hair froze in -5 F weather back in February and I sweated out the heats of August, but I saw the neighborhoods, the birds, the trees, and took in the changing smell of the seasons, all while adding a little more human dimension to my life and the sphere of my existence.
