Listening instead of speaking

With my job as a community organizer, I am required to do a tremendous amount of listening to people – their concerns, their passions, their desires for change. To build a strong and powerful organization, I have to organize a diverse group of people, which means I have to be sensitive to their differing needs. Also, I have to represent the organization, which means I can’t always just give my opinion, or even argue when someone expresses something I personally disagree with.
