Get a PhD

My baby didn’t make it easy, but I finished my revisions and will graduate on Aug. 4!

Defended my dissertation and passed! Working on revisions. Hope to graduate August 4. Revising with a newborn is hard, but doing a little bit at a time.

Took and passed my comprehensive exams. They were absolutely brutal. The self-discipline required to sit at that computer for four, 3-hour sesisons is designed to break people down. I did it though and I passed!

IRB crap approved.

The first three chapters got a good overhaul. Not perfect, but working toward it. Defense for the proposal is on Nov. 10 and a good amount of the data collected. I’ve been videorecording and am 25% done.

After the defense, I make major edits. Then, I finish collecting data and start transcribing all those videos – blech!

Hope to finish all the data collection and transcribing by the end of January.

Write Chapters 4 & 5 in February.

Edits in March.

Defense in April.

Graduate May 5.

Have this Baby May 27.

Finished with Finance. Have until Aug 1 to finsih my proposal. Oragnized my committee for and scheduled my compes (Sept 15 & 16). Got my beautiful Plan of Study in the mail and its the onlything hanging on the fridge! Just chugging along on the Big-D! Chug. Chug. Chug.

Just finished the College of Charelston part of Dissertation Bootcamp. Working through my proposal and made some progress on the thing – mainly the reading and decision-making parts. That’s the hardest thing to do. Now, I feel motivated to keep a tight schedule. Just have to finish this last class – Finance (blech!). Then, I can really concentrate on dissertating.

Just finished my last paper for my last full semester of class. I’m so close. Financial and Boot Camp in June and then I am in super dissertation mode. For May: gather all my stuff for bootcamp. If I could just commit to being the one-thing-at-a-time person I really want to be (instead of a just-in-time kind of person), I could really get some shit done!

I think I’m an official geek because the snow day and MLK day postponed Monday class. It’s my last full semester so I’m eager to get moving. On my way now! I’ll be done with classes by August. That is huge!

Made and A in legal even though I thought I was on the C-train. Getting ready for my last semester-long class – Trends. Looking forward to it. Going to Washington in April. Going to Bootcamp in June and hopefully taking my very last class – Finance in August.

New Year’s Resolution = wrap it all up by December 2011!

Just took a legal test last week. I had a hard time with it; there was so much to know. I could’ve been so much more prepared. It was hard. I think I may have even made a C. Gosh! I think I might take comps in May instead of September. I need to get the hell out of there before the whole department combusts. Seems like the faculty kind of hate each other.

Haven’t started taking the bus yet. I guess I’m afraid. I don’t know of what. Legal seems like it will be a good class. Had to miss OAG for the first time, but I go tomorrow. The book is okay – I think it’s gonna be kind of boring. The teacher is pretty dry; i know this because I’ve take 2 classes with him already – summer classes, fast ones, dry ones! The last two weeks have been so nuts! Just keep going. December will be here soon!
