New rules. . .
I got the New Rules of Lifting for Women book and it’s really fantastic. I have only done about 8 workouts so far in the past few months, and am deciding whether to start fresh in the new year or just pick up where I am and try for the 2 times a week (hopefully 3 times). It is sad to see my entries dated in September and October, and now it’s mid-December.
The workout itself is really really great. I feel so strong when I go, and it is beyond cool to be using barbells.
The only problem is that often I don’t go. The gym is half a mile away from my office, and I get into this silly dilemma of how to fit it into my day (during the day or at the end of the day), the resolution of which is that I usually don’t end up going at all.
I do have a kettlebell at home and a ball and some dumbbells, and I am more consistent about doing things with those. No barbell at home, though, so I can’t do the New Rules workout at home.

I was too cheap at Target to buy both 8 and 10 lb weights at once, so just bought 10 lbs. I thought there was no way I could do all the exercises with them, and would have to go back to 5 lbs, but I did all the exercises with the 10 lbs. I can’t wait to buy 15 lbs.

I’ve always thought weight-lifting was fun, but that it wouldn’t help me with losing weight so never bothered to do it consistently.
2 1/2 weeks ago, I started lifting weights using the Strong Women Stay Slim book, and I have no idea if it has helped me lose weight, but I love it.
It’s easy to do, it doesn’t take much time, lifts my mood in just 5 minutes, and I don’t even need to leave my room. I’ve gone from 3 pounds to 5 pounds, and I’m going shopping this week for 8 pound weights! The book claims you can get up to 20 pounds in a few months.
