Hello Lost Friends Out There,

This letter is to you and you know who you are. You’re wondering where that goofy, gorgeous and intelligent, ok fine at least the first one, friend of yours went. San Diego kids. I up and moved to San Diego and though I told you this somehow 2000 miles are a real disincentive for the both of us to pick up the phone, because face it the closest we are going to be to having a beer together is each slurping Sierra Nevadas while chatting on our cells in very different climate and time zones and that is about two steps away from getting drunk alone, which is what I will do after we hang up.

Let’s get the I’m sorrys out of the way: I’m sorry for not responding to your e-mails in a timely fashion, sorry for being a dork and not responding at all because it had been so long that I felt embarrassed, sorry that I didn’t call because I didn’t want to talk about how I don’t have a job quite yet (been interviewing though), sorry that I ditched Facebook and Myspace because they are a Time Suck. All of my Time Suck time is devoted to tech blogs and vaguely related job search stuff, oh, and blogging on a list site.

That’s enough sorrys. I discovered paper pads and rediscovered Outlook and use that for scheduling things. You won’t know this because it is lame, but I now have a reoccurring event that pops up ever 2 weeks and says “Call ___your name” and forces me to take action by either dismissing you or calling you. Ditto your birthday card. And every communication I will bug you to visit me until I have finally guilted you into it. And come on, is it really that hard to visit your good friend who just relocated to San Diego and has a spare bed??? Yes, you can find the time. Do I need to say there is free beer?

As for my intown pals I haven’t been that lousy have I? Hope not! I do need to have a party soon because you all have been super about inviting me to everything under the sun. My 1/2 true excuse is that I’ve been getting my place together and now we have a couch, chairs, wine and other prereqs for a “party”. Once you leave college chairs matter for a party or so I am told.

The other thing I need to do (and you are guilty as well) is ACTUALLY SCHEDULE the coffee date implied by our frequent partings “let’s do coffee really soon, ce ya.” I’m a little shy so help me out on this and volunteer a possible time or…I’ll put an entry in Outlook to e-mail ya! Thanks for wanting to be my friend again in 2007

Sincerely,
Your Found Friend
