More Community Knitting at the Recycled Lamb 3 months ago

Today I went to the Community Knitting group again. It was great (again). I finished the first afghan sqaure and I’m happy how it came out. I’m going to try to knit up a few squares each week. When I get a few more done, I will post a picture here.

Afghan Squares for Gemini House 3 months ago

Today I attended “Community Knitting” at my Local Yarn Store for the first time. The group is knitting and crocheting 7” x 9” squares to make afghans to donate to a local charity alled “Gemini House”. The charity is a transitional residence for 13-18 year-olds who are waiting to be placed in foster homes.

I think this is a great cause, and I am excited to help make some afghans for this group. Plus the people at the Community Knitting group were great fun, too!

I Finished my Helmet Liner 10 months ago

and dropped it off at one of the collection sites this afternoon. The project’s goal is to collect 5,280 hand-knitted or hand-crocheted helmet liners by the end of today. The site where I dropped mine off had collected 93 there at 2:00 in the afternoon. I wonder if they will make the goal.

Thanks to my DH F for modelling the hat!!

We are "Knitting for Our Troops" in Denver 10 months ago

The Denver Public Library is sponsoring a two-day marathon today and tomorrow to try to collect 5,280 knitted and crcocheted helmet liners to give to our local USO, who is then going to send the helmet liners to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think this is a great project!

Just got back from my LYS where I bought some appropriate yarn. They are asking that the helmet liners be made of superwash wool, so that they can be washed easily. Now I gotta get busy and knit so I can get at least one finished by tomorrow!

I finished another Chemo Cap 14 months ago

This one is for another friend of mine who is going through chemo. Gosh, I would so much rather mail these off to an anonymous cancer center then have so many people I know having chemo.

Hopefully can get it to her real soon. Best yarn for a chemo cap I’ve used yet…Rowan calmer!

I Finished Another Hat for "Caps for a Cure" 16 months ago

Last night I finished another Chemo Cap for Caps for a Cure. I really enjoyed this pattern. It’s called “Lace-Edged Women’s Hat”.

My First Hat made for Caps for a Cure! 16 months ago

I finished the first Chemo Cap which I’ve knitted for Caps for the Cure! I’ve posted a picture of it here.

The group collects hats six times a year, so i’ve still got time to knit one more before I need to mail them off for donation to Pennsylvania at the end of the month!

Finished! 22 months ago

I finished my first Chemo Cap for my friend Pam today. Hopefully will get together with her soon and get some feedback on how she likes it.

I have yarn to make another chemo cap. I’m going to use a different hat pattern for this one. I think I will give this one ot her as well, if she wants another one.

Getting Ready to cast on for a Fuzzy Hat 22 months ago

I was all set to make one type of hat…..I went to the yarn store to look for some superwash Merino yarn, and instead decided to try a fuzzy hat for my first chemo hat. The yarn store people told me that the fuzzy yarn (S.R. Kretzer “Fizz”)makes the most comfortable hats, which I can certainly understand. You can see the sample picture here.

Just wondering if anyone who has actually had to use a chemo cap can comment on a hat like this??? I’m afraid that this fuzzy style is not really what my friend will like, so I’m thinking if she doesn’t care for it I will donate it to Caps for a Cure. On the other hand, though, she is complaining that her wig is really itchy, so a hat like this might give her a break from the itchy wig.

Now I Have a Mission for Knitting These.... 22 months ago

Just found out at the first of the year that one of my dear friends was diagnosed with breast cancer. She started chemo two weeks ago, and had her fingers crossed that her hair would stay put. Unfortunately, last weekend it all came out.

So now instead of knitting these for Caps for the Cure, I will knit a couple for Pam. I only wish there was something more I could do for her.

I hope to get one or two cranked out this month still.
