say 'hi' to at least one stranger each day

said “hi” to another patient who came into the waiting room. We were both waiting for our respective radiation treatments. Turned out that the gentleman had really serious cancer that was spreading everywhere, not a good prognosis at all. But he seemed to want to talk about it all, so I did my best to listen. I really admired his spirit, putting up with all these treatments which aren’t any fun, when they didn’t seem to be helping him much. Gave me some things to think about, that’s for sure!

And it’s been pretty easy to do, except for those fairly rare days where I don’t go anywhere.

One of the most entertaining conversations I had was with a delightul older gentleman at, of all places, an OfficeMax in Las Vegas. He was standing in front of me in line, and his cart was piled high with pastic storage boxes. Now me, I was thinking how great these boxes would be to solve my “yarn stash” problem. Then I noticed how inexpensive they were! So I commented to him what a great deal those storage boxes were, and he launched into a big story about how he found nests of black widows in files he had stored in his garage. The gentleman was a delight to talk to.

Unfortunately, since we were on vacation in Las Vegas, I didn’t have room to stock up on those plastic bins at such a great price. But when I get a chance to organize my yarn, I’m headed off the OfficeMax!
