Progress! 2 years ago

As we speak, my Darling Hubby is installing a new curtain rod for our new drapes, which we bought yesterday at Penney’s. We took the disgusting, dusty old drapes to Goodwill. Not sure if anyone would want them but you never know!

It appears that the new drapes may be about six inches too long, the room has a sloping ceiling. If so, then I will have to re-hem them, so the goal may not be quite finished yet.

Nonetheless, I am THRILLED to have made progress on this!

Going to look for Curtains, Not Blinds.... 2 years ago

This goal has been languishing on my list for like six months! The biggest problem is the depth of the window casing (not much, that is, barely 3/4”) which severely limits the amount of space for mounting hardware for wood blinds. I simply hate the drapes that are there, that only cover the bottom of the window (cafe-type curtains). In the afternoons, the glare from the western sun hits smack in the middle of the computer screen. I think that answer to the problem is new, full length curtains that can be closed when the sun shines through the window.

A New Idea 2 years ago

When we went to Lowe’s to return the book of samples for the 2” wood blinds, we saw a new option there, something called “woven wood blinds”. These look like they might work. Now we have to take some measurements of the actual window depths, and them see if they will work.

Getting This Done is Much Harder Than I Had Anticipated 2 years ago

Okay, so when I decided at the beginning of summer to replace the World’s Ugliest Drapes in our study, I thought it would be easy. So finally, Lowe’s was having a sale on Levelor blinds, so we cruised over to the store and brought home the sample book to decide exactly which shade of Oak was the best for our room. And then we made the Terrible Discovery, which is that the window casing is not deep enough to accommodate the 2” blinds which I had wanted. Curses!

Well, it is good news that we figured this out before money was spent to order the blinds. In fact, the window depth is barely i inch to the screen, so now I am at a loss what to do. We are even considering just getting new drapes that are not as tired looking as the current ones.

The big problem with the existing drapes (besides their general ugliness) is that they are “cafe style” which means they only cover up half the window. And the window is west-facing, so in the afternoons the sun glare makes using the computer almost impossible. Nonetheless, this is just a temporary setback. I still intend to solve this problem in the near future.
