.. there was a feature on the radio about a guy in Ireland who lives half way up a mountain. Can’t remember his name but it was an incredible piece. This man, who is now in his seventies, has spent his whole life living in this same house without ever having electricity or running water.
Apparently he applied to get electricity installed but the electric company (ESB) quoted him some astronomical fee to put up the poles and wires needed to reach his very remote house. He even agreed to pay it (6,000 euro I think it was). Then they decided it was just too much hassle and turned him and his money down. Disgraceful.
Then a local politician got involved and shamed the ESB into connecting him for the standard fee (approx 60 euro). When he was asked what he would do with his new electricity he said he might get a television so he could watch the news.
This has nothing to do with my goal to live in the mountains but it is living in the mountains related. Thank you for listening.

So, while living in a lighthouse has attracted a whopping 14 cheers, living in the mountains has attracted a mere 2 cheers. It would seem that the popular vote tends towards the Lighthouse. Or is it just that its higher up my list so people see it first. Perhaps the lighthouse ideal has a more specific image associated with it. Perhaps it just has more appeal. But oddly more people (106) are seeking to live in the mountains than are seeking to live in a lighthouse (65). Ah the things i think about when i have too much time on my hands. No personal progress on either, i’m afraid.

Begining to realise that a lot of my goals are to do with escapism. Just getting away from all the things that make up my life. I dont suppose this is any different from most people but if I am honest with myself these thoughts are going to just keep wandering about as daydreams unless i start to think about them in a different way. I dont want to be two years further on in my life and be no further on than i am now.

Which ones is the thing?? I love mountains. Isolation, wildlife, beauty. will have to think this one through and go visit some of them. Thinking of the Rockies but only because they are most prominent in my mind. It would also be something to walk in the snow of Kilimonjaro (spelt wrong I am sure) before its gone. 2015 apparently.
