learn to build a website

Well, I have been thinking about a laptop a lot the past several days, but in the end, I still don’t feel it is the right time. There is always the option of installments, and the few times I have had something to pay in installments in the past, I have respected the terms but I don’t want to add to my expenses at this time. I also don’t want to have to apply for new credit and ideally, I would prefer to be able to pay for a new computer all at once. And of course there are the extra costs to consider, for software, etc. I also feel I want to be better organized and have more of a plan and purpose before investing in one. I am still gathering my thoughts. I have been patient with this, and I think one part that helps make it easier is having access to a computer in the meantime.

I saw an ad for a mini netbook that looked interesting as a potential temporary laptop, until I could perhaps afford a better performing one. Something I could take with me on longer bus rides (its size would be great for that) and use to learn web design and just for enjoyment. I don’t exactly have extra money for it at this point, unless I were to use some of my savings, but I don’t know. Interesting possibility though.

Gosh, the last entry seems like ages ago. With having reworked my budget, my debt will unfortunately not be paid by the end of the year. Still, lately, I have found myself thinking about this goal and the courses I was interested in taking and how it would be nice to have a laptop, head over to a little bookstore I like and work on learning the skills in my spare time. There are many times when I come across a business without a website and wish I could offer to create one for them, or I visit a website with a format that feels frustrating and that I can imagine being so much better, for the visitors and for the business owners.

There is no rush for this though, but it is a knowledge I would like to have. Something I feel could maybe help me with any of my own future goals. I don’t quite know when I will be able to do this.

It seems like a long while away (but this will help serve as a reminder when the time comes), but I am looking at purchasing a laptop next September by using part of August and September’s salaries to pay for it. We’ll see!

In spite of thinking of this for quite some time, doing research, and at times being close to making a purchase, I have been good at telling myself I can’t afford it right now and it will have to wait. I have been thinking it would be a nice gift to myself once my debts are paid, so I have decided I will not purchase one before then. It will be later than I would like unfortunately, but I figure it will also be an added incentive.

I have been thinking of this for quite some time now. I think the main reason this came about was due to considering having my own business. Though I have had various ideas, I am still without certainty on the type of business at this point and whether this will truly happen or not (sometimes the possibility feels further away). Still, it feels like a step in the right direction and as progression. So in spite of the destination not being so clear yet, this is something I feel I do know and that feels right somehow. It feels like a part of the big picture and something that will ultimately not be a loss. I want to learn this in the eventual case that I do have a product and/or service to offer, to have the knowledge and skills and not have to depend on anyone. It can also be creative, and I have considered possibly helping other businesses improve their websites, or, in the case they have none, helping them to create one. This would give me experience, a portfolio and references, and perhaps this could become something to do on the side.

I have looked into a particular online course and always have it in the back of my mind as something to do when I have the means, the time and a new computer. I have not mentioned this idea to my parents. I think part of it is that my brother once enrolled in an intensive graphic design program. He needed a co-signer for the loan I believe and my mom found it to be expensive and was hesitant about it, and in the end, they did have to help cover the cost, and he is not working in that field. Sometimes things simply don’t work out as planned. Web design has its differences, but I worry the association will be there and I will be discouraged from it and this is something I do want to learn. I don’t want to worry her with it until I have officially decided to do it or am in the process. I feel these courses are reasonable in terms of cost and time, and I could take one course at a time to see how I feel about it all. Also, this is really more for myself, so I am not looking for a degree. When the time comes when I finally feel able to take a course, I will definitely look further into it to ensure I’m not overlooking anything and that this is a good choice for me.
