since i started working at a bookstore i got better at dealing with fiction. for the first time in years i can think of five or so novels that i finished in recent memory.
on my plate right now are: the amazing adventures of cavalier and clay and infinite jest (yeah, a little light reading). i also have some easy books around to pick up in case i want to burn through something.

my first college boyfriend loved annie proulx and recommended her books enthusiastically. after we broke up (spring 05) i bought a second hand copy of the shipping news. this fall (fall 07) i started it. and today, at last, i finished it.
finally! not sure i actually liked it, though.
now i’m just working on mr sammler’s planet and jonathan strange. i’ll wait to start “the waves” until i finish one of those. maybe.

nothing like a nice terry pratchett book to make you feel accomplished. it takes me about 3 days to get through them, assuming i don’t blow through them cover to cover in one sitting.

finished: harry potter 7, the last temptation of christ
started: mr. sammler’s planet
i also briefly picked up a book in ancient greek (which i can read but dont understand) and one on statistics (ditto) but I don’t think those count. ;-)

currently in progress:
-last temptation (“main” book at the moment)
-the shipping news (been working on it for months)
-consolation of philosophy (started last night on a whim)
-jonathan strange (completely forgotten about until noticing it this morning)
the list has been piling up without my noticing it! ack! discipline is the key at this point – no more new books unless they’re short stories!

finished: “fun home”, alison bechdel’s memoir of her childhood. awesome!
started, will finish: “the stone diaries”
started, will (hopefully) not finish: “mr darcy takes a wife”, a needlessly glorified “sequel” to pride and prejudice. THIS DOES NOT BELONG TO ME i swear it was just sitting around and i couldn’t help myself! but seriously, had i known that i could write pervy fanfic and get it published i’d never have bothered with college :-p

finished over thanksgiving weekend, took me about a week to read. it was exceedingly excellent! i also read three volumes of megatokyo, but i don’t think they count. hee.

Finished it last week. The book (a series of memoirs and reflections about deaf culture) was somewhat badly organized at times, and left a few stories unresolved, but the message came through, and now I am quite determined to learn ASL at some point.

today i finally finished peter gay’s history of weimar germany and read several chapters of “train gone, sorry” (a lovely memoir/history of growing up deaf). last night i finished the last volume in the Sandman series, after buying it over a year ago (though in that case i simply didn’t want the series to end). the stack remains huge, though…
