Looking at my running logs I’ve ran at least 6 miles a week for the past five weeks… including a six mile run one day. There’ve been some weeks where I’ve only run twice… but we’ll let that slide given the mileage. I think I’m at the overachiever point for this goal, which was to basically get me to start running regularly. Since I’m training for some races now it’s time to make some room for new goals!

A wicked dust storm two weeks ago threw my running schedule completely off, and I’ve only run four times in the last two weeks (twice a week – 6 one week, 7 the next). I DID do a 7 mile hike (at 7500 ft, even, with a 120-lb dog in tow) on Saturday instead of running though, which I think is an adequate substitute. I was following some Runner’s World computer-coach program to train for a 5k, but my intuition tells me that running intervals this week like it’s directing me to is a monumentally bad idea – I need at least another month or so of base mileage before touching speedwork, especially with my finicky muscles.
Six miles total. Not bad! I’m even learning how to run in 100-degree heat, and my legs don’t even feel like crap. Maybe this time I’ll actually keep running…
