two more bags of clothes to donate, one box of books sorted and out of there, one box of photos and cards relocated to live with the other photos. I found it much less stress to part with clothes after a glass of wine :)

It looks better, but it’s depressing how messy it still is. Uhg – how long will this go on?!

another box 3 years ago

Yep – sorted through yet another box in my closet. Actually two- one was mostly empty and had some junk and some Christmas items which I combined into other Christmas items. The other had some embarrasingly old clothes in it. Threw some out, piled other for donation. I have to admit I should probably toss the entire lot of it, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Sheesh I’m pitiful.

Not much left for boxes in there. Two filled with pictures/books. Then there’s a bunch of stuff on the shelves that need a better home. Getting closer!

Since Christmas 3 years ago

1 box to my sister
2 boxes of baby girl to a friend having a ‘surprise’ baby after she thought she was done
4 boxes of boy stuff to a friend with a new boy
3 boxes of maternity to Crisis preg center
3 boxes of more baby stuff to Crisis preg center
3 stacks of magazines into the trash.

Now, not all of that was in my closet – so some of this probably fits better in the ‘organize house’ goal.
I keep reminding myself – baby steps – its ok to be slow as long as I’m making progress.

emptied. Threw out a few things, donated a handful and put some in the wash since I ‘think’ I want to keep them. Seriously, I shouldn’t probably keep them since I haven’t used them in so long.

I also made a phone call and found out our local crisis pregnancy center not only takes maternity clothes but also childrens up to 2T. I really was pained over what to do with all the baby stuff. It’s not good enough to sell but certainly good enough to still use more. Now I have a good place to donate it to.

another session 4 years ago

I found 3 boxes of maternity clothes in the closet this weekend – sheesh – didn’t know there was so much there. Felt like I never had anything to wear. Anyway – think I’m done with having kids so these need to go somewhere. Also went through another box and found a couple of shirts I’m putting back into service and put the rest in a bag for GoodWill.

why? 4 years ago

Why is it so hard to get rid of stuff???? This really truely shouldn’t cause me so much anguish. I think I need a ‘coach’ to help me make ruthless decisions about the items in the closet and help convince me that if I haven’t worn it in 2 years it really isn’t doing me any good.

Ok, So I’m not the kind of person to tackle a big job all at once. My husband is that kind of person and I am SO not. So this weekend, I boxed up the clothes that are now too big for me. I’ve recently lost 30 pounds and in the expectation that I will never again reach that size I had no trouble packing away the big things. I even called my sister and she’s accepted the offer of taking them so they are not actually out of my home yet but I feel good having taken that step.

About 3 weeks ago I went through and bagged the trash in there – the tshirt with worn collars, the pants with frayed hems, the shirts with baby-spit up stains. Threw them out. Also bagged and donated a bunch of stuff that was easy for me to say “I’ll never wear this again”

Unfortunatley, it is not apparent yet that I’ve taken those two rather large steps. My closet is still full. Why is it so hard to let go of things? Part of me is waiting for the stuff to fit again as I continue to lose weight. Part of me just hates getting rid of something useful.

There is one section that I want to add a hanging bar so that there is an upper bar for pants and a lower bar for shirts. On the agenda.
