God is at work

all around us all the time. I was challenged this weekend to open my eyes to the spiritual work going on -be sensitive to the things of God. Then our pastor called me to action of being open to the new work he has for my own life. I don’t know for sure what that is yet, and it’s scarey to open up to the possibilities of what God will ask me to do but I’m willing.

early

to rise. I’ve been getting up 30 min earlier than I used to in order to spend some time in the Word. It feels indulgent to have a quiet time without kids/dog/house/work fighting for my attention. Not every day has an ‘aha’ moment, but some have and it’s always interesting.

fire

I was reading this morning in 2 Cor about how everything in our lives will be judged. It will all go through a fire and even the gold and jewels will be consumed along with the wood and straw. How much will I have to show after the fire? How much of my life is involved in the eternal – God, God’s word, and people’s souls? Not enough.

spirtually fat

That’s what our pastor challenged us with this weekend. That as a whole, in general, we come to church to be fed and we are – good sermons, good Bible studies, good people. But we never exercise spiritually. That we are to gro in Christ for a purpose. Growing is not the purpose, but service to others is and the growing equips us to do so. So, what am I doing in service to others outside of my church? Am I exercising spiritually? I think not

Scripture

reading has to become a part of my daily life. There will be no growth without the Word. I will start by reading a few minutes every night. I got a new book for Christmas ‘Teaching your Children Diligently’ or something like that which talks about using scripture in daily life with your children. It’s a very convicting and inspiring book so far.
