Okay, so technically my site is up and running. But have a few glitches/visual/coding issues I have to figure out still. Bit by bit, and it’s all falling into place though.

This goal will be done when my site is refined enough to do a big mail-out on myspace/facebook to notify everyone I know. At that point I’ll post a link up here too ;)

I think a couple of weeks. Hooray.

God this is complex. I’m determined though. Give me a couple of months, I think…

Hooray! 15 months ago

Thank God I did as much research on hosts as I did. I’m thoroughly impressed. I got advice from their tech support through a live web chat, and when what their advised didn’t fix the problem, they fixed it for me.

So now I have WordPress up an running! Next step- customising the layout. Am halfway through learning basic html, so will play with that a bit. Wish me luck!

Good News... 15 months ago

I know what I was doing wrong, and I understand how to get wordpress up and running.

Bad news… In the process of figuring this out, I have managed to pretty much disble everything. Including somehow deleting my domain off my host account. FAAARK!

I have sent a message to customer support, hopefully they’ll respond soon. Would be nice if they can restore everything to the initial settings. Oh dear….

Oh My God 15 months ago

This is freaking HARD!
I registered a domain name and got myself a host today, but getting further than that is leaving me stumped, which I’m finding very confusing because I’m usually a fairly computer literate person, anything I don’t know I can figure out. But I’m trying to install WordPress and mySQL is just baffling me, because I think the version my host uses is different to the one that wordpress uses explains installation.

I’d usually bang away at this until I figure it out, but my brain is exploding, so I’m going for the soft option and gettting the free WordPress install option from their help team. Which I know is a kind of risky option because it allows a third party access to my coding, but I’m kind of stuck. Ah, I thought the hardest part would be learning html. Html is a freaking walk in the park. MySQL be damned!

EDIT

Alright, was saved at the last moment. Luckily the customer support from my host was fast, and helped me figure a few things out. Only still stuck on how to point the folder to root. Found the pointing application, but it doesn’t seem to let me do it. Let’s hope customer service comes to the rescue again. I bet they get so sick of amateur webmasters. But I’m paying for the service, I guess…
