I do have a bunch of poems on Poetry.com, but not all of them are worth reading. And I’m not entirely happy with Poetry.com because it’s not easy to get them to remove poems once you’ve posted them. And they send you lots of stupid emails about the award you’ve just WON! for your EXCELLENCE IN POETRY! (please send $39.95 plus S&H).
So, no, this is not really “publishing” poetry.
Even so, I still have my poems on their site. I keep thinking that if I gather enough poems that are worth something, I could pull them together into a book. Meanwhile at least they’re out there for the reading, and it has been an easy way to get to them when I want to show somebody one of my poems.
Helpful hint: If you use Poetry.com, do NOT fall for their offers to print your poetry for you. These are called “vanity books” and you basically spend $1,000 for a box of books that you get to distribute yourself. Or give out for Christmas presents/donate to charity/leave under a bridge somewhere. And how depressing is that??
