i’ve been reading through proverbs. i’m struck this time through by the things god delights in. the bible says he delights in the prayer of an upright man, and also a just weight (as opposed to weights designed to cheat buyers in a market place).
i take comfort in that he is delighted in my prayers. it encourages me.
also i’ve noticed a theme – the ways of the wicked become his downfall – as illustrated by ‘he who digs a pit will fall therein.’

i had the urge to flip through my bible a bit the other day and come up with some questions.
led to me re-remembering the difference between the priests and the levites.
still not sure what to think of ‘days of etenity’ found in micah 5:2. seems like a contradiction of terms, doesn’t it? dividing eternity into discrete units? why and how would you do that? my best answer so far is that the strongest language in the hebrew for jesus christ’s eternality winds up this semi-contradictory phrase in several translations.
of course you might subscribe to the idea that it’s a figure of speech and not meant to be taken literally. i can see that but i was taught good hermenuetics means you take everything at face value as much as possible.

studying the bible as a way of knowing the lord’s ways better has only helped me over the last 20 years. i intend to do more of it. for me at first it was difficult but the more you do it the more sense it makes.
