more relaxation poses today. Plan to do a few more soon. The amount of tension in my shoulders is astonishing.

Luckily, Yoga International has an article about relaxing the shoulders. The Singing Snake, and Lion’s pose have been interesting. Getting into these has opened up my mind a bit to some neglected aspects of Yoga.

doing a sun salutation every morning is quick and easy, but doing a lengthy stretch/relaxaton session this morning was sooo good.

It’s been a while since I did any relaxation yoga. Every time I do it, I am amazed by the results. Today was no different.

I guess I’ll have to work up a ‘moon salutation’ – a quick relaxation series for before bed.

Modifications  — 2 years ago

I got into the yoga for a back injury. And it helped.

But every yoga instructor I dealt with got frustrated when I needed so many modifications to the poses. I’ve broken a lot of joints over the years, and getting the proper alignment is a tricky business for me.

I got it down to a solid Sun Salutation every day.  — 2 years ago

I know it sounds wimpy, but after doing the blah blah with Rodney Yee every morning, I came to the realization that Rod ‘the bod’ Yee does his yoga too fast for me.

I needed to get some yoga done that didn’t require a video—that I knew the sequence, that didn’t take all day, but that let me get the quality stretches and alignment that make yoga worthwhile.

So I’ve settled on at least doing a serious Sun Sal every morning. It might take 5 minutes now, but at least I’m ON it every morning. I think I’m going to add some agni sara to my sun salute—seems easy to integrate into the end of the Sun Salutation, and nobody’s doing that in the fuckin videos.

I wish I could just do it!  — 2 years ago

I have found yoga tapes to be both good and bad. On the one hand, they put you into a super structured 30 minute workout—then you’re done. You’ve gone through several asanas, and you get a sense of accomplishment.

Lately, though, I hate them, because they don’t really let me relax into the poses like I want to. But trying to do yoga without the tapes to guide me through a series is an invitation to distraction. Maybe this article will help.
