1. Daily: reflect on five things for which I am grateful

Goals completed this week: Weigh 175 pounds. Yay!
New goals this week: None

Week seven review 9 months ago

1. Weigh 175 pounds
I’ve been weighing 175 on a bunch of days, but I want to go under, just a bit, to call this done. Hopefully, that will come this week!
2. Daily: reflect on five things for which I am grateful
Yes, did this faithfully
3. Review goals weekly
Doing this now
4. Keep my heart open
I’ve developed a way to clear out resentments. I think this goal is pretty much done. I’ll close it this week.
5. Expand my vocabulary
Worked on this
6. Read 50 books in 2009
Finished a book and started another this week.
7. Discover new music
No new discoveries this week – still getting to know last week’s discoveries
8. Be more comfortable with discomfort
I get to practice this, now that my workplace is in a part of town that is not quite as savory as I am used to
9. Stain my bookcase
No movement
10. Give one new Kiva loan per month for a year
Still not the Kiva-loaning time of the month

Goals completed: none
New goals: none

Week six review 9 months ago

1. Weigh 175 pounds
There have been more days when I weighed 175.
2. Daily: reflect on five things for which I am grateful
Did this
3. Review goals weekly
Yes.
4. Keep my heart open
Been practicing forgiveness a lot
5. Expand my vocabulary
Worked on my words most days for about fifteen minutes a day
6. Read 50 books in 2009
Completed book four. Diligently reading book five.
7. Discover new music
Discovered Radiohead, Nick Drake, Deuter
8. Be more comfortable with discomfort
Still avoiding situations that bring the slightest bit of psychological discomfort. It’s time to walk straight into them, just for the sake of doing something different
9. Stain my bookcase
Waiting for spring, when ventilating the fumes from the room will be easier. How’s that for an excuse! If I did this goal, I would be practicing goal #9.
10. Give one new Kiva loan per month for a year
Not that time of the month

Goals completed:
Walk 45 minutes a day, five days a week, for a month
Listen to the audio-program, Brain Boosters

Goals added: none

Week five review 10 months ago

1. Weigh 175 pounds
There was one day this week when I weighed precisely 175 (Yes!), but it fluctuated quite a bit, actually going down to 180(!) one time. I’ll consider this done when its more consistent.
2. Daily: reflect on five things for which I am grateful
Did this daily
3. Walk 45 minutes a day, five days a week, for a month
Succeeded at this this week. Month almost over!
4. Review goals weekly
Doing this now
5. Keep my heart open
No serious challenges this week
6. Expand my vocabulary
Started working on my next group of words
7. Read 50 books in 2009
A few more pages to go on my fourth book
8. Discover new music
Used an iTunes new music e-mail and clicked on and listened to all the artists on it. Nothing that stuck, but I exposed myself to a lot of unfamiliar music
9. Listen to the audio-program, Brain Boosters
Did this most days, almost done with it
10. Be more comfortable with discomfort
Still getting used to this goal
11. Stain my bookcase
Nothing happening
12. Give one new Kiva loan per month for a year
Not that time of the month

Added one goal: Listen to the audio-program, Brain Boosters
Goals completed: 0

Week four review 10 months ago

1. Weigh 175 pounds
I’ve lost three and a half pounds this week and have only a half a pound to go. Yes!
2. Daily: reflect on five things for which I am grateful
Fulfilled this.
3. Walk 45 minutes a day, five days a week, for a month
Fulfilled this and more (6 days, some for an hour)
4. Review goals weekly
Doing this now.
5. Keep my heart open
Sometimes I fulfill this and sometimes I don’t. I am still finding new situations that need work on this.
6. Expand my vocabulary
I finished memorizing my latest set of 25 words and have found 25 more to learn.
7. Read 50 books in 2009
Finished my third book and will start my fourth today. Good!
8. Discover new music
Listened to pandora.com and discovered one new artist that I like. Also, listened to some new music that I purchased. Great!
9. Be more comfortable with discomfort
Doing pretty well with this, I think. Being alert to when to practice this is challenging, though, because it’s so intangible for me. It’s mostly in interpersonal situations, as I said last week.
10. Stain my bookcase
Did nothing on this goal this week.
11. Give one new Kiva loan per month for a year
Gave my loan for this month this past week.

Still haven’t found any new goals to add. I thought of one at one point, but I let it slip away, unfortunately. No goals completed this week. Stuck???

Week three review 10 months ago

1. Weigh 175 pounds
I’ve kept up with the walking, which had little effect in itself on my weight loss, but I increased my conscientiousness about diet in the last two days, and lost about a pound
2. Daily: reflect on five things for which I am grateful
Have done this every day. Changed to a morning time this week.
3. Walk 45 minutes a day, five days a week, for a month
Have succeeded at doing this goal this week in spite of bitterly cold weather
4. Review goals weekly
Fulfilling this goal now
5. Keep my heart open
There’s one challenging person in my life who gets me to practice this goal by reorienting my attitude about his role in my life and the potential gift he is providing me with
6. Expand my vocabulary
Have been studying my words most days and have been adding more word to learn from the book I’m reading
7. Read 50 books in 2009
Finished a book this week and am in the middle of a third – on schedule for finishing about a book a week
8. Discover new music
Not too much done with this, apart from listening to a recently purchased album. I have several new albums that I will listen to this week
9. Be more comfortable with discomfort
I could practice this goal more by not running away from some situations that seem to require human interactions such as with neighbors, which, for me, are difficult
10. Stain my bookcase
Spent some time writing out a plan for how to go about doing this. Some logistical issues necessitate putting this off for a while. Or, to put it another way, there’s discomfort involved in this – see previous goal.
11. Give one new Kiva loan per month for a year
Not the time of the month to do this. Next week.

This collection of goals is manageable for me. I would like to find some additional goals this week.

Week 2 10 months ago

1. Weigh 175 pounds – adopted and followed a daily walking goal to boost my metabolism and burn calories, unfortunately no weight loss, although I did temporarily veer down to my lowest weight so far :)
2. Daily: Reflect on five things for which I am grateful – Yes, I did this every day
3. Walk 45 minutes a day, five days a week, for a month – Yes, I have walked at least the requisite amount every day this week
4. Review goals weekly – Yes, I’m doing this now
5. Keep my heart open – adopted the habit of repeated forgiveness whenever people who I have fallen into not liking appear in my mind; it helps clear them out of my mind
6. expand my vocabulary – studied my current list of 25 words a few times this week. I used to do this daily.
7. Read 50 books in 2009 (new goal) – adopted this goal yesterday and have already read one book this year and am in the middle of another. This goal is a notch above the 40 book goal I had for last year, which I completed.
8. Discover new music – have been listening to Pandora.com and have learned about some unfamiliar music. Also, I have purchased some CDs of new (to me) artists and albums. I still need to listen to some of them.
9. Be more comfortable with discomfort – This, for me, is a fairly intangible goal. I can’t really recall a time when I accomplished this. Thinking about visiting my sponsored child in India definitely feels uncomfortable. We’ll see if I will pursue this big endeavor (not a goal yet), which would put me way outside of my comfort zone
10. Stain my bookcase – I find this goal daunting and keep putting it off
11. Give one new Kiva loan per month for a year – Yes, I have faithfully done this slow moving, goal, although not this week. Maybe I’ll give two this month!

I’m pleased to have made progress on most of my goals. This may be because I weeded out my list last week.
