Although I predicted that my holiday in Rome was going to be a disaster, in fact the holiday turned out really well. It was actually made more interesting by the Pope’s funeral!
Surely this should tell me that assuming the worst outcome automatically is the wrong style of behaviour to adopt and is not likely to make me a happier individual?

I’ve never been a very optimistic person. With this in mind, I think I’ll maybe abandon Italy as a holiday destination. Three years ago I was due to go to Venice, but my father died a few days before.
Tomorrow I am going to Rome for a city break but certain recent events make me feel that Rome is not the ideal destination just now (See http://tvor.blogspot.com/2005/04/bad-timing.html )!
