While I have been a bit lackadaisical in my training (I hurt my quadricep and then just got plain lazy), I did run a half-marathon a couple of weeks ago, even while getting over a cold. It was in the mountains in the west of Thailand, and there were such amazing views; I wish I had my camera with me then. The morning mist lingering in the mountains was amazing to take in. The course itself was quite difficult; it being in the mountains and all.
I did not achieve my goal of under 2 hours (final net time was 2:12:02), but after not having trained for 5 weeks and being sick and running up and down steep grades, I would say that’s pretty darn good.
My full marathon is now less than 7 weeks away. I plan to run it in under 3, high 2’s, or realistically: under 4 hours. I feel pretty confident than I can do that, as there will not be any mountains to run up and down.
After this, it is my hope to do at least one half or full marathon every year. My wife wants to do a half, so next year we will run the international half marathon in Detroit. I told her I won’t worry about my time; that I’ll run by her side the whole time.

I’m currently in Week 6 of my 26 week training. I decided to do the beginner’s training schedule because, even though I used to be quite an avid runner, I have never run more than 3 miles at a time.
The BKK Marathon is Sunday, November 18, 2012. I asked my wife if she’d like to make a little event out of it too, where she can invite her friends along and they could possibly do a pub crawl while giving me water at checkpoints (the race begins at 3 AM – it’d be too hot to run in the daylight hours).
Next year I’ll do the Detroit Marathon, as I’ll be back home by then. I’m hoping to make this an annual thing if it goes well for me. = )

All right, I have a goal in sight. Either the Bangkok Marathon in November of 2007 or the California Marathon in Sacramento in December of 2008 or both. If I do the first one I will most likely do the second one. It’s just a matter of making time for training and solidifying the dates/locations. I should still be in Bangkok by that time next year, and I am planning on moving out West to Cali in 2008 when I get back to the States.
The pic is from that commerical for Avia running shoes where the road kill are singing. It’s macabre, I know, but they’re funny characters still.
