I’m not opposed to Playboy. It’s pornography, but I’m not Andrea Dworkin. Porn is going to happen, in some way or another, and there’s not much feminists or anyone else can do about it.
Then there’s the clothing line. Tacky, but it’s the choice of the wearer, and this is a free country.
But recently, I’ve been noticing scary things. A stationery range in WH Smiths displayed next to their Disney stationery. Schoolgirls with Playboy binders. Playboy hoodies. A 12 year old with Playboy EARRINGS??
This is wrong. It’s become a cool brand, but one that’s steeped in pornographic connotations. A couple of years ago in the UK, some Muslim girls picketed a Smiths store for selling Playboy goods to children. I’d like to see more things like that happen.
