I’ve just come back from another wonderful few weeks in Israel, and because I’ve started learning a Hebrew, I’ve found it so much easier to pick up other words and phrases, and I’ve also started reading words in Hebrew (though getting my head around the vowels took a bit of time!).

Right now I can only say one thing aside from greetings, and that is “Yesh bananot?” which will come in useful, I’m sure. I’ve started learning the letters, too, which is confusing especially with the differences between script and print. My friend was online last night and gave me a little quiz in recognising them though, and accidentally taught me my first Hebrew curse, too!
Much to my father’s original annoyance, I’m starting to teach myself Hebrew using Hebrew For Dummies (excellent thus far). He was concerned that taking up another language as a hobby would distract me from the French which I’m taking the A Level in this year.
However, after going to see Pembroke College yesterday, and hearing the tutors say that an interest in a diverse range of languages is an advantage on your personal statement, he seems to have changed his mind.
Funny, that. :)
