I bought a small composition book which has turned into one long love letter to Oleg. It isn’t finished yet, but I think before the end of the year it will be full. It’s a slim volume, but with a single subject, and I believe it counts as a book. Doubt it would be suitable for publication, but it’s a book.
squirrella has written 8 entries about this goal
to my first novel. :) It’s difficult because I keep going back and rereading it to make sure I’m not making continuity errors, repeating myself, stuff like that. I know editors do that kind of thing but I want it to be great from the very first reading.
An entire plotline appeared in my head the other day: beginning, middle and end. Very unusual for me. I plan on taking a week off in early May to try to crank out the whole thing. Wish me luck.
I bought this Make Your Own Books kit that’s supposed to be for kids, really, but I’m loving it. Comes with two small blank hardcovers to fill and decorate. One has lined pages with boxes to put illustrations in. The other has a big oval hole in each page and you’re supposed to put a photo or something on the back cover and integrate it into each page. The kit was less than $20 at Target and it beats the heck out of scribbling on bar napkins.
Thank you, 43things…all these memoirs, book fodder if ever there was any.
There, I did it. Well, really I typed “A Book”. Hold on a sec. There we go. I wrote “a book”. Done.
Oh, look, a parade! Would you look at that, my name is on that float! You say I should come aboard? Okay! Whee! Wave at the people, toss little decorative erasers…who knew there was an Author of the Century parade? Or that there was a “Most Succinct” catagory? Hmm hmm hmm hmm, hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm, hmm. My that’s one catchy jingle.
Just something I came up with when falling asleep.
He’s dreaming he’s in his orchard, I think
for without hesitation he reaches out
to pluck me from the arms of sleep
and wring the juice from me.
It’s okay if we don’t get it published when we’re young. Lots of cool people didn’t publish ‘til they were older, like Mark Twain. So just don’t beat yourself up for not being Hunter S. Thompson. :)
