Become quadrilingual

Well, my initial entry is still just about right, except that I have swapped out German for Japanese (?!). I would still like to learn German at some point, but not just yet. I’ve actually begun taking private Japanese lessons and am doing okay. My tutor has been very encouraging about my progress. Ideally I am to study my lessons on a daily basis. I’ve more or less kept to that, but haven’t been as vigilant during my time off over the holidays. On the other hand, last week I stayed up until about 5 a.m. studying Japanese, so….

I want to get to the point where I can speak French, Spanish, Italian, and German fluently.

French – I studied French for about 10 years; I want to keep participating in conversation groups, reading, etc. so that I don’t forget what I’ve learned and so that I can continue to learn.

Spanish – Advanced beginner. I listen to Spanish radio and occasionally do verb drills. I want to find someone to converse with on a regular basis.

Italian – Intermediate beginner. I listen to radio, and that’s about it. There are conversation groups for Spanish and Italian, but if I participated in them, I would be spending so much in gas and time that I’ve kind of tapered off.

German – Total beginner. A friend of mine has been teaching me the basics.

Even though I have been doing better lately with at least listening to radio online at work, I haven’t quite figured out how to fit all of this in and study/converse regularly. I’m focusing on other goals right now, but eventually I hope to figure this out.
