So apparently 2009 was 91% worth it.

O hai water on the moon! Thinking about this has been adding a little bounce to my step for the last few days. I’m not one to get psyched up about science, but the idea is just plain exciting.
Science fiction, meet science fact.
Why did I ever stop writing? After most of a year of the industrial-style nonfiction of articles/journals/essays, moving back into the expansiveness of narration feels like some sort of unfolding, or the relaxation of some muscle I hadn’t realized was tense. Where writing long hand leads to hand cramps and ink smudges and thus moves at an absolute snail’s pace, I can type about as fast as I can compose, and it makes such a difference. My lack of practice and the difficulty it’s adding to NaNoWriMo this year only makes it that much more satisfying when I succeed at falling into that zen place where I lose hours and hours transmogrifying my time into stories and lose my voice from so much singing. (Late at night my voice gets flexible enough to run all the way up and down the scale as quickly as a goldfish, and then I couldn’t help but sing Regina Spektor and Mozart if I were tied up at the bottom of the ocean.)
In summary, stuff is GREAT. :D
I’m making some serious progress on this goal… More than I ever expected to, at any rate. Happiness, to me, is having stability with room for spontaneity – busyness without stress. And I’m just about there.
Quoth Kurt Vonnegut: “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”
