On Being Healthier 3 years ago

I have pushed this goal to the back of my mind ever since I moved across the country. I kept making excuses to myself, and now I am as unhealthy as ever and to my shame I gained back all the weight I lost last year plus some.
So last Sunday, I just seemed to wake up and realize how what I am eating and how my lack of exercise is negatively affecting me. My mood swings have been raging full force. I am disgusted that my fat clothes are so tight they are uncomfortable.
I made a small goal for this week not to drink soda, and to drink more water. I succeeded at not drinking soda, and I did drink more water (but not as much as I intended).
I plan to continue adding one goal each week. This week I would like to do some exercise. For this week the goal is 3x for at least 20 minutes. If I do more that would be a bonus.
Hopefully small steps will make this goal manageable. I usually tend to try to change everything all at once, and I think that may be a set up for failure.

Here's to a Healthy and Happy New Year 3 years ago

Over the last few months I have greatly increased my health via exercise, drinking more water, and taking vitamins daily.

My biggest obstacle to optimal personal health is smoking. I have been thinking about quitting a lot and now I need to get motivated! I have kept this goal separate and I plan on posting something positive there soon.

I have been recording my daily food intake and exercise for three months and I find, despite good intentions, I still eat poorly on a regular basis. This week my goal is to eat five servings of fruit or vegetables each day.

Here’s what the National Cancer Institute recommends as a serving of fruit and vegetables:

1 medium fruit or 1/2 cup of small or cut-up fruit

3/4 cup (180 milliliters) of 100 percent juice

1/4 cup dried fruit

1/2 cup raw non-leafy or cooked vegetables

1 cup raw leafy vegetables (such as lettuce)

1/2 cup cooked beans or peas (such as lentils, pinto beans, and kidney beans)

I’m going to go eat some carrots now. I wish you all a healthy and happy new year!
