the only thing is that you shouldn’t use Pitchfork as a web frontend because it was discontinued.
here we have a link that pretty much explains how to do everything. now all we need is a box and some good internet access =)
how much bandwidth do you need? it’s up to you to decide! here’s a calculator for you:

have fun!
i’ll update when i have the box to run the radio on!

i used to run a fileserver on my pc when i was living in the dorms. back then, i served about 80GB of music to hundreds of people. my friend who served about this much porn was slightly more popular among downloaders, but serving music was really cool nevertheless.
now recently I’ve stumbled upon a really cool internet radio station run by Russian collective bloggers from upyachka.ru:
http://radio.upyachka.ru/
playlists are available at:

and although i’m not too much of an internet radio fan and my bandwidth is not that good, i’ve been listening to this stuff for a week now and i can’t stop.
so i figured: why not run one myself?
so what i need for that is:
1. a box with all the music connected to the internet 24/7
2. [dyn]dns records pointing to the box’s ip
3. mpd installed for playlisting and play control
4. icecast server for streaming
now i don’t have any problems with 3 and 4, or even 2, but as far as hardware goes, I still don’t have a server box, AND my ISP limits my monthly traffic to 50GB per month and doesn’t give me a static IP.
i’m planning to get a server fairly soon anyway, so i’ll update this as soon as it gets anywhere =) stay tuned.
