Backpack through Europe with my daughter in Summer 2009

I have been checking out our options for train passes and lodging. We will likely stay mostly in hostels with a couple of hotels thrown in here and there. This is going to be far more expensive than I had originally imagined! I better get saving. We want to spend 3 to 4 weeks in Europe and travel through several countries. I don’t want to plan every aspect, but I want some idea of what to expect.

My daughter and I decided to see how much change we had accumulated toward our future trip. We have $105 so far. I am going to open a separate savings account this week and put this money in it. We are planning to keep saving our spare change. But now I am also going to put $20 every two weeks into the savings account. I also want to take all the money from our beverage can refunds and put that away.

My 13 y/o daughter & I have been putting spare change in a large coffee can for a few months now. It is almost full. The next step is to put this money in a dedicated savings account.

We are going on a 3-4 week trip in 2009- probably summertime. It’s still a loose notion but with the money growing now it seems “more real”.
