I just harvested 7 of the most gigantic zucchini that I have ever grown. Absolutely HUGE! Many people pick them younger, but we pick them very large. We slice them about a half inch thick, drizzle olive oil on them and grill. Just before they are down we shave Parmesan onto them.
Super Yum!

The tomato plants are struggling in the heat. The last of them will come off the vine tomorrow. I will cut them back to 1 foot and they will start over. Sometimes we get a very short crop before we freeze in the fall. Tomatoes are the first soldier of summer to fall in the battle of seasons.

Local food doesn’t get better than growing and making your own!
I have so many lovely tomatoes on the vine. They are yummy! Tonight we are having eggplant parm. for dinner, straight from our garden.
I am making cheese this afternoon. I hope it turns out the way it is supposed to and I equally hope I don’t kill any of us ;-)

Recently we got tomatoes, potatoes, squash. They were all wonderful! We also tried a local cheese maker. We purchased three different kinds. I can hardly wait for next Saturday to go buy more!

In New York specifically Union Square, there is a Farmers Market on Saturday and Wednesday. I was recently there for 2 Saturdays and 1 Wednesday.
We loaded up on all the produce and bread, cheese, fruit, meat that we could use in between market days. Most of these products are made a short trip away in northern New York.
Great food! Good prices! Wonderful for the environment! All in the middle of New York City. Who knew?!

lots of our own vegetables in raised bed gardens. This year I expanded the garden a bit with another 4×8 foot raised bed.
Tops in my list of need to do this year is learn to can. My wife cans peach jam (from peaches of our very own tree), but she is afraid of canning anything else for fear of tainted canning.
I’m on the lookout for a pressure cooker to help with the process.
We supplement what we don’t grow enough of with things from our local farmers market. We are about to join our local food co-op. We buy our eggs from locals too.
The problem I am having is from October to April. Not much to grow or to buy locally. I could use some tips if you have any.
