Finally brought myself to watch Akira again after many many years. It made more sense this time.
There is some good artwork and animation in there (especially when you consider how long ago it was made), but it’s still just a little weird for my taste!

Re-Animator
I have un-given-up. Watched Re-Animator last night which happened to be on TV ages ago and I recorded it on a whim.
Fantastic film. Everyone should watch Re-Animator at some point in their life.

Ok… I’ve enjoyed doing this goal, but it seems some of the remaining films are difficult to get hold of…
If I see them around one day, I’ll probably watch them, but I don’t want the goal hanging around for ever.
So worth doing for the ones I could get hold of. It’s also opened my eyes for future film watching. That’s good.

I’m not sure I’d say I enjoyed it. A bit of a bloodfest, with no real plot. I can see the attraction, but not really my type of film, I guess.
There were some really nice bits of choreography and acrobatics though. I liked those.

I was surprised how good this film was… from start to finish I absolutely loved it. Sometimes I was sitting on the edge of my seat, sometimes I was jumping out of my skin, and sometimes laughing at the really over-the-top outfits, puppets, animation and gore.
Some really nice scenes from a composition/lighting point of view, and it certainly pushes the boat out on camera effects.
But overall, just a great splatter/gore/shock movie – really not my style normally, but this one is done with such panache!

Ok… I’ve seen the dog poop bit of Pink Flamingos. Oh dear… I hope the whole film isn’t like that. Though it does look like it’s going to be quite funny really.
I managed to pick up Hard Boiled from the cheap shop. It looks from the blurb like it should be seen on a big screen.

I’m really not sure what to make of this. I enjoyed it, a little slow in places (but not many), the just-over-two-hours was well spent. Some great gore scenes, and some very cheesy ones – but there was definitely more to it than just gore.
I felt rather ripped off at the end, though. Almost like they were rushing to finish it.
Glad I watched it, though.

Wow. What can I say… any film with a Jaguar E-Type Hearse gets my vote. Just fantastic, from the storyline, the laugh-out-loud gags, the sentimental love story, the photography – some scenes could easily be framed as stills, the Cat Stevens soundtrack… the whole thing just works so beautifully together.
Highly recommended.
So far, I’d say if you only watch one film from this list, make it this one.

A lovely ‘little’ film. Apparantly shot in 5 days, and just an hour in length, it has a simple plot, but I really liked it. Enough interest and suspense to keep it going, and I just loved the premise.
