It was King Henry 7th in 1486. I checked on the way past tonight.

This is the oldest part of town, with King Someone having sleept in this building in 1600-and-something. Probably.
I always forget the details.
But it’s a nice building anyway. The actual old manor is behind me, but this building is nicer.
Been a bit depressed today. No jobs going. Photography not taking off like I’d like it to.
So I went out and took photos of all the closed-down shops I could find in 30 minutes’ walk from my home. Quite a few.
On the positive side, these are all potential locations for my studio and gallery! :)
What used to be the bus station was ripped down and a large shopping centre built. Unfortunately, not many shops moved in. And now two of the shops that did move in have gone bust.
Can you say white elephant?
It has some quite nice contemporary architecture, though.
These started out as a small shop on the outskirts of town. Such was their success that they recently moved into a place the size of a small supermarket.
Very useful for all things oriental, and at real prices instead of the hiked prices most shops sell at for their ‘exotic’ foods.
The town has a rather high Chinese population, so places like this are well patronised.
...the reason the bell foundry in photo #3 moved to Loughborough – they wanted their bells recast from the original metal and didn’t trust the foundry to do it unsupervised, so the foundry moved and the bells were recast.
This is in the oldest part of Loughborough with the old manor house behind the camera.
Quarried for granite since the 1600s, it’s possible to stand on the highest point in Leicestershire and look down the steep side into the quarry workings.
A war memorial tower and carillon of 47 bells, hand-played on a giant keyboard and pedalboard on the top floor.
The green colour comes from copper cladding which over the years has tarnished. One can only imagine how it looked when new!
See the keyboard in action here
A Grade-II listed structure on the edge of Garendon Park, a privately-owned park on the edge of Loughborough. The 24-metre tall obelisk was built in the mid 1700s.
