I met with my group again today and we drove around a run-down area of town that we hope to turn into a walkable community. It’s near downtown, so I think that is a huge plus for the area. It’s near the airport though, which is a minus due to the noise. Still I think the area has potential.
We all piled into my car and drove around taking notes and photos. I had a great time! We even stopped at Pete’s Fish and Chips for lunch. Yum! Who knew saving the world could be so delicious!

Okay so I met with two members of the group again this last weekend and we hashed out some important ideas and reworked the 3D computer model to have a wider appeal. We have a meeting tonight. It looks like we could pick up several new members since a lot of people said they were coming. This could be a big turning point in our group.

I met with one of the members of the group yesterday and we made a 3D computer model of what a typical block in a car-less community might look like. We sent some images of the model to one of the group members that couldn’t make it.
The ultimate goal here is to put together a presentation that we can give to developers and hopefully get them on board in building a walkable community.

I recently joined a group of people that are trying to get denser, more walkable communities built in the Phoenix metropolitan area. I believe that if people live in more walkable communities, they will not have to drive everywhere. This will help stop global warming and create more of a sense of community and a place that people would actually enjoy living in.
