We made a border around our garden beds of five feet of mulch. Took me over two hours to get my portion mowed, lay cardboard/newspaper down, then apply 2 inches deep of mulch. I also mulched the sides of my two twenty feet rows, so that there will be a lot less weeding. I think my baby carrots may have gotten washed out from the irrigation, but everything else looks great! I won’t be checking plants again until Thursday because I need to get moved into our new house this week. It’s great to be busy on such rewarding projects!

Everything has been planted. It’s more work than I thought it would be, but we get mini-lessons as we progress from our Horticulture professor. This week I put compost on the tops of the beds, and mulch the edges of my plot. The plots are irrigated on Mondays, and then we work them W-Su. The compost and mulch has been provided to us free. We put in labor at plant sales at the university, and chip in $20 a semester. The funds go towards all the things we need. It’s a wonderful deal I think. I just worked in the last plant sale and enjoyed it—over 900 former customers get our emails about plant sales.
Joined a group through the university. Looks like lots of fun and plenty of veggies to eat as the reward. Also, we will be giving some to the local foodbank, and having a plant sale.
