I lived in finland for over a year as an exchange student, learned the language. Its not as hard as people make it out to be. Fins are just arrogant and excited about speaking a useless and difficult language, that they encourage the thought that its impossible for foreigners to learn the language.
Its hard to take advice from people who are native finns, because they are bias. Ive traveled and lived so many places, but you wont find people as arrogant and rude about thier language as the finns. They really dont want to listen to you speak thier language, and although this is a huge generlization and doesnt necessarily apply to all finns, I truly believe its the general consensus. You have to understand, finns arent really known for anything, so they try to come up with some type of abnormality or uniqueness through being proud of thier language. Its a pathetic excuse.
I took the official language test and passed with very high marks but the problem is, after learning the language, it doesnt help you get any sort of job or recognition. Everyone speaks english, and with alcohol its even worse. Since finns believe no foreigner can truly understand them, and because they are so shy, its really pointless to put yourself thru the experience unless you are on some type of drug.
Save yourself the inconvience.
