Two coats of grout sealer on the frog paver today. I was going to “place” it near the driveway; the beginning of a path. Next to our driveway there is a large, bare spot where grass does not grow as we trample over it daily going from the car to the house. The plan was to make several more mosaiced pavers and then fill in with… I hadn’t thought about it yet. So I got out some graph paper, a pencil and a measuring tape. Looked at the bare area, measured and then drew up a plan for the path! (Actually several plans. “Your first idea is generally not your best” my one drawing professor told me.) The pavers are about 15”, I have some some smaller, tumbled 5” square pavers and then I will leave some ‘empty’ areas where I’ll plant corsican mint or some other sweet, dense ground cover.

much better technically than the first project! The next paver will be sunflowers. Not a super-original idea but the sunflowers in the garden are blooming so I have a good, real-life example to design from. Plus there is inherent movement and flow in the sunflower shape itself.
I brought back the tile frog I put aside to finish the pebble mosaic. I am happy with how this is turning out. Learned from the first project that shape, color and composition are not easy to change “on the fly” with mosaic and time spent up-front on design, color scheme and drawing it out on the final surface to be tiled saves later frustration. For me anyhow.
