I went to the website offering the hosting specials. It was taking a very long time for the sign-up form to refresh. Just when I was thinking “hmm, do I want a website hosted by folks who’s sign-up processing takes a long time?” and then I got a page error. So I went to godaddy.com which I’ve heard good things about from two other people at my office. I registered my domain-name as a start.

There’s a special offer from a company called serrahost: discounts for people renting studios from ActivSpace. The ProStore software they have available for hosting comes with built-in paypal plug-ins. The domain-name I want is available! So (1) get a business license (2) open up a bank account for the business (3)link the bank-account to my PayPal account and (4) work with serrahost on what hosting package makes most sense. I have some crafts I want to sell online and at least 50% of the sales will go to NW Behavior Associates and/or the autism program at our son’s school. There will be a “links” page to stuff I love (43Things of course!, freerice.com, Kiva.org). Hmm , maybe the autism info will be on an “about us” page since it’s all extremely personal (and opinionated!).

Looked at godaddy.com and bookmarked some other page which I’ve now forgotten the name of. I have a couple pages of notes – nothing structured just lists of stuff, random ideas etc about the autism website I want to create. When our son was first diagnosed I got on the Internet and one of the first sites I found was a parent website buy a father [Rick Saffran]. It was chock-full of great information, links – plus it gave me hope! Geez, this guys’s got a kid with autism too – and he’s got the energy and focus to get a website up?!?
