On holidays for a couple of months, almost had it sussed. Then we bought a TV and I started biting again. At least I’ve now made the connection: tv + work == short nails.
nope, just about back to square one.
things were looking so good too with 4 fingers back to normal length.
here we go again.
Pinky: check
Index finger: check
Progress has slowed ever so slightly. Two fingers down but as yet, no others.
I think I’ll have a shot at not biting my ring finger this week.
i’ve added my index finger to the ‘no bite’ club.
think i’m getting the hang of this at last, mind you, my other fingers are copping a pounding.
6 fingers to go.
Right then, here we go. I’ve been a prolific nail biter since… forever. Time to stop.
In the past I’ve tried those horrible ‘stop biting your nails’ potions that are supposed to taste so bad that you stop wanting to bite them. Needless to say, none of them worked for me. Having to put what is effectively nail polish on every day didn’t really help the cause either.
So, for the past month I’ve been using the brute force, willpower model – one finger at a time. That’s right. No cold turkey for me, I’m growing my nails out one digit at a time, starting with my pinkies.
Smokers generally use this model to quit, slowly ween yourself out of your bad habit by decreasing your ‘dosage’. In my case I’m acheiving this by removing one digit from the ‘available to chew’ pool every once and a while, whilst still being able to get my ‘hit’ from my remaining, chewable nails.
Based upon the success of my pinkies, things are looking good so far.
