Almost ready to go 5 months ago

I just checked in for my flight online and printed out my boarding pass. Looks like I’m just about set for this mini-adventure.

I’ve already paid for my hotel and the reunion dinner. I’ve confirmed my car rental. I’ve printed out maps to the place we are meeting for drinks on Friday evening and the church where the dinner will be on Saturday. I went to a party store and bought the beads I wanted to bring along.

The best part so far is that I contacted the local all-schools alumni association and they were able to locate a copy of the HS yearbook for my senior year, so I am going to pick it up on Friday morning. The cost: $30. The value: priceless.

All that’s left to do now is pack, get out to the airport by 7am, and fly. I won’t be online for four days—that’s what I call a vacation. (Although I hate to think what my e-mail in-box is going to look like when I get back!)

I wasn’t sure I could swing it when I adopted this goal, but now it’s 90% probable I’ll accomplish it. I turned in my frequent flyer miles for a round-trip ticket to Indianapolis, and I’ve booked a motel for two nights near the Notre Dame campus in South Bend. Now all I need to do is send in my check for the dinner on July 11th and book a rental car. I also need to get some Las Vegas-style Mardi Gras beads to pass out to classmates at the dinner—orange and blue, our high school colors, of course. This should be fun!

40th Anniversary 13 months ago

I learned that my graduating class is going to hold a reunion in June 2009. As a first step, I’m reconnecting with some of the organizers through Classmates.com. I’m not sure how I’m going to swing this, but it would be something very special to see old friends after all these years.
