Is this a cop out? 2 years ago

I borrowed a screen version of the book from the library, with hopes that knowing the story before reading the words might help me get into this. The danger, of course, is that seeing the film will make me less interested in reading the original. Then again, there is every possibility I’ll find the DVD just as hard to get into as the print version, then I can procrastinate on two tasks!

I just don’t have the time or patience for Mr. Joyce right now. His prose is just too rich and confusing. I may have to postpone the attack till September. A quieter, gentler time?

I dug the book out of storage and it has made it as far as my nightstand. The bookmark I left in it moe than a year ago still marks my lack of progress. I think I’ll skim what I read previously before digging in again. With luck, I might actually get it read this time round.

I’ve owned a copy of it for about 20 years and I’ve started it twice. Got as far as page 70 or so last time. Now the book is buried in my storage unit. When I move in June/July, I’ll unpack it and make a decision then whether to read it or not. I know it’s one of the “must read” books of the English language and it influenced countless 20th Century authors. I suppose it would be a pity to skip it.
