build a dark room

I think I have to give up on the space I had planned for the darkroom. My buddy never gets around to doing anything on it. I’d do it myself, but it’s his house and he’s meticulous about his projects. I’m waiting to use a darkroom that is supposed to open in town. Maybe I’ll own my own space one day…

I thought of a new alternative for a door and ventilation. It’s a plan that I have used in the past, but I forgot about it until now. Last time I put up 2×4’s and made a quick frame, then I staple gunned black plastic to it to make a light proof wall. If you build a structure that turns more than 2 corners, the light can’t bend around it. It’s open and light proof. I can just stick a fan near the entrance to pull out air and fresh air circulates. I still have to wait for my buddy to make time to do it.

In the meantime, I plan to sign up to use a darkroom space. It is fairly expensive but I want to make some prints soon for an art show and Xmas presents.

I also want to do this during the winter months. I am being stalled right now because the room is going in someone else’s garage and they want to do the construction parts (like cutting a hole in the door) themselves. I came across a darkroom for rent. Maybe I will do that for awhile.
