stop biting my nails

two steps forward, one step back

The more I read, the more I bite my nails! When I’m busy with projects (organizing, sewing, managing finances), it’s not a problem. When I read, old habits (since childhood) sneak in. If my nails are in good shape, they’re more likely to stay that way. If there’s a nail that needs some cleanup, it’s likely to get torn or chewed before I’m consciously aware of it. :-(

Still, I’m doing WAY better than I have been. My best tip is liberal use of Band-Aids: if there’s a nail that’s short and uneven, wrapping it in a Band-Aid keeps me from picking at it when my brain is otherwise engaged.

NEARLY there

Most of my nails are grown, to the point where I have to work to keep them trimmed. Yay!

The exception is my thumbs, which still seem to get fussed with and are much too short.

I’ve had a few times when I’ve considered scheduling a manicure, only to destroy one or both thumbnails. So close!!

But, I do feel good about my progress. Now that my 6yo son is picking (not biting) his nails, I’m glad I’m making progress at being a good role model.
