I’ve done a fair amount of programming with J2SE (Java’s core “standard edition”) and J2EE (the extended “enterprise edition”) for work, but none of my employers have required J2ME (the stripped-down “mobile edition”) yet. Which is typical; it’s mainly used for lightweight game apps on cellphones, which seems a waste of a promising technology. It also means that if I want to do something with this, I need to do it on my own time. I’ve got the J2ME-capable cellphone, so next step is to build something – something a couple of steps up from “hello world” – and get it working, and onto my cellphone. End to end.
After that, bigger and better things will be the easy part.
