Being Positive is a full-time job right now. I had no idea just how dominated by negative thoughts my mind was until I started making an effort to remove them. Even as I speak, I’m having to bat them away. It’s worth it though! The more I come to terms with the fact that Happiness is an internal state, and the more familiar I become with the anxious tendencies of my own thought patterns, the better I feel. I’m no longer a slave to the weather, and as I actively engage in detachment and begin to free myself from my dependence on external validation, I can feel the first few rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds. To everyone out there, keep at it, and don’t fall into the trappings of worrying about worrying about something! Spending 4 hours telling yourself not to worry is still worrying! Work on spending more of the day thinking happy thoughts than depressing ones. Volume is what matters!
I also recommend “Open Heart, Clear Mind” by Venerable Thubten Chodron to everyone, especially those intrigued by what I said about the internal nature of happiness, external validation and attachment. Good Luck!
