Another sticker I picked up last summer, during this vacation. I’ve rafted on the Arkansas several times and always had a great time. It was only the second time rafting for my daughter and one of my niece’s, and the first time for the other niece and my sister-in-law. The water was low but we still had a lot of fun :)

I saw this liquor store when I was on vacation last summer & just had to stop. For those who don’t know (which is probably most of you), this is based on an old joke about on Indiana’s nickname, “The Hoosier State.” Nobody really knows what the word Hoosier means, but the joke is that the nickname comes from the question “Who’s your daddy?”- which isn’t exactly intended to be a complement to Indiana’s residents :P
The reason that this name shows up over 1000 miles west, in central Colorado, is that the small town of Alma (the highest incorporated town in the US, at 10,578’ / 3225 meters) lies just south of Hoosier Pass.
Since I spent most of my first 24 years in Indiana, and was thrilled to finally escape it ;) I couldn’t pass up the bumper sticker.
I have a couple more entries to post under this goal. Unfortunately, due to this, I’m going to have to start all over again! :(
I got this one in August, when I was on this trip. We passed through Leadville a few times and spent one afternoon shopping there. It’s a cool old mining town with a view of the highest peaks in Colorado.
It’s said that Leadville is the highest incorporated city in the US, at 10,152’ (almost 3100 meters), although there are a few small towns that are higher. I also remember reading once that newborns in Leadville never get perfect Apgar scores- the city is so high that babies born there are all least slightly blue from hypoxia.
So, you don’t want to be born there, but it’s a fantastic place for outdoor recreation!
I picked this sticker up when I was on this vacation earlier this year. Great town, great location, and also a great ski area :)
This is one of the lesser-known ski areas near Denver (mostly because it’s an old-style ski area, not a resort) but it’s about the only place I ski anymore. For one thing it’s the closest major ski area, so I don’t have to fight that horrendous traffic on Interstate 70 for as long. But it’s also a great area with a nice “family” feel. Parking is free and food and lift tickets are reasonable. Much of the ski area is above timberline so it’s not the best place to ski when the weather’s bad, but on a nice day it’s a glorious place!
I posted a few pics from skiing at Loveland with my daughter last spring here.
I got this sticker when I bought a really cool recycled-aluminum water bottle while I was on vacation in May (a photo of the water bottle is below).
I picked this one up when I was on vacation in early May. Kodachrome Basin is a beautiful state park in southern Utah. The park got its name from the members of a 1948 National Geographic expedition who were impressed with the bright, varied colors of the rock in the area.
One of my favorite national monuments and one that most people have never heard of, even people who live in Colorado. There is a drive along the rim of the plateau that has fantastic views and the park has a variety of gorgeous hikes, from very easy to relatively difficult. I would highly recommend a stop here to anyone traveling Interstate 70 through western Colorado- a drive through the park could take as little as an hour of your time and you won’t regret it!
I actually didn’t have this car when I attended the 2007 convention in Marengo, IN. But the car sticker that year was a “window cling” so I saved it and have transfered it to this car.
Other than the weather (here is a YouTube video that shows that much more effectively that I could ever explain it! The video is kind of long but if you click on it, make sure that you flip through to about the 7-minute mark to see the shade canopies that were destroyed by the storm) it was a fantastic convention and I met a lot of great people there. Unfortunately, although Josh was there, he wasn’t one of them- we didn’t know each other on here yet :P
The car sticker from last year’s caving convention.
Another fun convention, with much better than average weather :)
