Not only did I not find the info to get my spreadsheet up to daste last year, but I was also pretty lax in keeping track of my 2012 list. After gathering together the books I had piled on my nightstand and the bits of paper scattered around with books written on them, I think I have my totals for 2012:
Number of books read: 42
(So close to 43!)
Number of pages read: 12,496
That’s a little more than the last couple of years but not quite as much as 2009.
I would say that there are two major reasons I read a bit more last year. One is that I took an atypically laid-back vacation last summer and I did a lot of reading on that trip. The other is that I was single all year :P
My total now is around 485-490 thousand pages. I may hit the halfway point this year!!
BTW- with fifteen people working on this goal and two who have marked it as completed, this is probably the most popular goal I’ve ever created on 43T :)

# of books read: 37
# of pages read: 11,710
It seemed like I read a lot in 2011 but it was still the exact same number of books I read in 2010, with slightly fewer pages. I figured out last night that at 2011’s rate, I won’t finish until I’m 100! I’m still waiting for that 6 months of pain-free bed rest I want to get ahead on this goal ;)

my annual update for this goal.
No, I still haven’t found all of the info to get my spreadsheet updated. But here are my 2010 figures:
# of books read: 37
# of pages read: 12,250
I’m down a little bit from last year, but that’s still a pretty respectible amount of reading. However, it looks like I’ll be needing a few years of retirement to get this goal completed in my lifetime! :)

it really sucks getting old!
I just finished reading a book that I enjoyed quite a bit. It wasn’t until I started putting it in my spreadsheet that I found out that I have actually read the book before! Sure, it was nearly 12 years ago, which means that I’ve probably read 400-500 books since then. But still, to read the entire book without even a hint of familiarity…

gotten caught up on my spreadheet, but I can post my numbers for 2009.
# of books read: 43 (How appropriate!)
# of pages read: 13,861
That sure seems like a lot of pages, and compared to most people it probably is. But to put it into context, it would take over 72 years at that rate to reach 1,000,000 pages! Since I didn’t start my list until I was 15, I would be 87 before I finished at that rate. I guess I need to step up the pace a bit ;)

doing plenty of reading, I’m really slacking on keeping track of it. My Excel spreadsheet is years behind, and even my written list is haphazard. For the most part, my reading is scattered on little scraps of paper, most of which are in storage right now. I’m trying to get the recently-read books into my spreadsheet, but it’s going to be a while before I get things organized again.
Currently my spreadsheet is at 415,418 pages- but the correct total at this point is probably closer to 430,000.

a journal of all of the books that I’ve read since I was 15- June 30, 1975 was my first entry. It includes only books- no magazines or comics or anything like that. It’s on paper and also in an Excel spreadsheet now.
I’m a bit behind on my spreadsheet, so I’ll just mention where I was at the end of last year. As of 12/31/05, I had read 1518 books, totalling 410,937 pages.
Almost halfway there :)
Just for fun, here’s the listing of the first 15 books on my list:
