Get a digital SLR camera

My camera arrived today. I am so excited I am pretty much speechless. Yayyyyyy!!!

My camera was estimated to ship today. Now the estimated ship date has changed to 5/15. Don’t they know that this is torture?!!

So here’s what I’ve ordered:

• Canon 30D kit with 18-55mm lens
• EF-S 17-85 mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Zoom Lens
• EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens
• Angle Finder C
• Sandisk Ultra II 4GB CF Card

This is going to be a HUGE adjustment for me since I’ve never shot with an SLR before. But I’m looking forward to the challenge. I’m considering offering my photography services for hire later this year. Even if I did second photographer duty at a wedding for $1k once a month, that would be great extra cash that I could really use! I’d be happy making $1k in a day of shooting plus another half a day of photo editing and burning to disk. Of course, my dream would be to make a living with my photography, prints, notecards, etc. —just being creative and doing what I love. Ahhh…I can dream, can’t I?

I’ve been feeling really down, so it was great to finally order my camera today. Can’t wait to get it!!

Who knows how long I will have to wait though. I have already started buying accessories for it…probably not the brightest idea but I have already had a request for a commissioned pregnancy and mom/child photoshoot. Cool! But I need a camera since I sold my other one. Sigh.

I can’t wait until the dust settles and my mom and I can get a good handle on our combined financial situation. I want a new camera so badly. I sold my previous camera to a friend, so all I have left is a little snappy cam. It’s great for snapshots, but that’s about it. I was driving at dusk yesterday and the sky was beautiful. I wanted so badly to have a great camera to take beautiful pictures with at that moment. I am really looking forward to getting my new SLR more than ever now. I have a new appreciation of my passion for photography, and I want to explore it as much as I possibly can.

I sold my Canon G6 to my friend. I am packing it up and shipping it to her this week. I guess I will need to replace it with the Canon 30D sooner rather than later. But I want to get a sewing machine first, so I will have to be okay with my snappy little S400 for a while….

I am going to get a Canon 30D at some point this year when I can actually afford it.

It’s gonna be awhile. :P
