I've been practicing lately 3 years ago

It’s so relaxing.

It is, however, going to take me forever to learn. I am so terrible at reading the music that as I pick out the notes, I commit them to memory. So when all is said and done, I will know how to play it by heart. :P

whoa 3 years ago

I got my piano back, and man, has it been a long time since I played. Given that I was a beginner anyway, I’m really back to square one with this piece. It’s going to take a while, but I’m trying to play for at least a few minutes every day while I painstakingly pick out the notes again since I can’t really read music. This is going to be a challenge! But I can’t wait to mark this “done”!

going to start on this again soon 3 years ago

The ex-boy is moving, so he’s going to give me my piano back instead of lugging it up all the stairs at his new place. I can’t even remember the last time I played, so I will be starting over from nearly the beginning, but I am looking forward to practicing “Moonlight Sonata” again. What a beautiful piece of music! It’s the whole reason I wanted to take piano lessons in the first place.

doh! 3 years ago

I ran into my piano teacher at Starbucks today. I felt really guilty when he asked me if I was still playing, especially because he had such faith in me and really believed in my ability to learn to play the piano really well. He saw the article in the paper about 43Things and mentioned seeing my photo, and I fumbled awkwardly, trying to tell him that this goal was on my list.

Doh!

I know I shouldn’t feel that bad about it, but I do. It’s the “nice girl” in me…I almost feel like I let him down….

I haven't given up! 4 years ago

I have always wanted to learn to play the piano. When I was very young, I taught myself to plunk out the melodies and simple harmonies of Christmas songs and folk songs on a teeny little toy piano. Finally, as an adult, I decided to buy a used electric piano (the full 88 keys, weighted keys and all) and take lessons. I took lessons for a few months but soon grew busy in other areas of my life and dropped the lessons. I was excited, though, to find that I am a quick learner on the piano. I soon graduated from my starter book to my instructor’s tattered copy of “Moonlight Sonata,” which has been the one piece of music I’ve always wanted to learn to play. So, while I’ve had to put it on the back burner for now, I do plan to one day return to the sonata and finish learning to play it. I’m looking forward to it. :)
