Saw an article on Sky News the other night that said recycling plastics can actually lead to even more emissions than if it was just left to decay in landfill.
What a depressing thought!
The report also said that a lot of the things people send for recycling just end up getting shipped to other countries and shoved in landfill anyway.
I thought I was doing something useful to benefit this planet and preserve it for future generations.
Bah.

i don’t want to come off preaching to anyone but here are some of the things i’m doing to help the environment which some of you may find helpful or can perhaps add to…
1. make a monthly trip to my local recycling depot which accepts plastic, tin/cans, paper/card, household goods, clothes, books and organic waste
2. walking short journeys or using public transport rather than taking my car (which usually takes longer anyway and only serves to contribute to the gases that are destroying our planet)
3. i use energy efficient light bulbs and my dishwasher and fridge are rated A for energy efficieny. i also don’t put on the dishwasher unless it is full
4. instead of turning up the heating i put on an extra sweater
5. use reusable bags when shopping rather than plastic/paper ones
6. turn off all lights/unplug appliances when leaving a room. appliances left on standby can use of to half the electricity as when it’s left on
7. when boiling the kettle i only use the amount of water i need. boiling a full kettle for 1 cup of tea is a waste!
well that’s all i’m doing so far. hope my list wasn’t too boring or preachy and that maybe some of the tips will help others. much love xx
