Instead of doing one 6-7 week trip in 2008 we’ve decided to split it up into one 3.5 week trip in 2008 and one 3.5 week trip in 2009.
This way I can still work Summer School for the extra money (about $4,500. take home) both years and leave the day that summer school finishes (maybe even 2 days before it finishes as I get two personal days)!
The plan for 2008 is to go on a 3-3.5 week backpacking trip of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland until the 5th or so of September (shortly before I start the 2008-2009 school year).
Doing this allows us to save more money, collect more souvenirs and ensure that Mark does not encounter any problems with taking time off of work (as a new immigrant from UK to US working as a nurse it would be unlikely for any hospital he works at to let him have 6 or 7 weeks off at once).
The backpacking trip will then continue around the same time of the following year (2009). This will include France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands and Norway. We may add or change things here but we’re not sure yet. May hold off on Spain and do Austria and such. We don’t know if we really want to see Spain that badly or not.
This April we’ll be spending pretty much all of our time together in London as Mark still has the whole flat to himself and hopefully it will remain that way! With free accommodations we can’t reason going to Scotland or anywhere else and paying for hostels.
